Du aber, o Mensch Gottes, fliehe diese Dinge, jage aber nach Gerechtigkeit, Gottesfurcht, Glauben, Liebe, Geduld, Sanft! (1 Tim 6:11)

Es ist so leicht, den christlichen Glauben als eine Liste von Verboten darzustellen. "Du sollst nicht...!" Dies ist jedoch eine große Einschränkung des Willen Gottes. Der Herr sehnt sich danach, dass wir das Wesen seines Sohnes darstellen und damit das geschieht, gibt es so viel mehr für uns zu tun als NICHT zu tun. In diesen Versen stellt Paulus einige Ziele für uns dar. Im Neuen Testament finden wir viele andere, ähnliche Verse. Diesen Dingen nachzujagen verlangt von uns Fokus und Aufmerksamkeit. Es dauert nur einen Augenblick wütend zu werden, jedoch inmitten von Versuchungen und Schwierigkeiten Geduld zu beweisen dauert lange; so lange wie die Versuchungen und Schwierigkeiten andauern. Es ist leider nur zu leicht in einer Situation heftig zu reagieren, jedoch sanftmütig zu bleiben, egal was uns begegnet, fordert viel größere Charakterstärke.

Im nächsten Abschnitt schreibt Paulus: "Kämpfe den guten Kampf des Glaubens; ergreife das ewige Leben". Hierfür brauchen wir Kraft und ein Ziel. Es ist ein steiler Weg, denn diese Dinge sind fremd für die Welt in der wir leben. Paulus betet an anderer Stelle für die Gläubigen, dass sie durch den Geist Gottes mit Kraft am inneren Menschen gestärkt werden (Eph 3,16b). Die Stärke des neuen Lebens, das Gott in uns hineinlegt, befähigt uns genau so zu leben wie Jesus.

Lasst uns gemeinsam danach streben, allen um uns herum das Leben Jesu zu zeigen!

But you, O man of God, flee these things and pursue righteousness, godliness, faith, love, patience, gentleness. (1Tim 6:11)

It is so easy for Christianity to be portrayed as a series of don’t; ‘Thou shalt not …’ as used by the Authorised Version of the bible. But this is a great limitation of God’s purposes. His longing is for us to portray the characteristics of His Son, and to accomplish this, there is so much more to do than not to do. In this verse Paul sets out some objectives for us; and we can find many other similar verses in the New Testament.

To pursue these things requires focus and attention. It takes but a moment to lose one’s temper, but to remain patient in the midst of trials and difficulties, takes time; as long as the trials and difficulties last. Or it is sadly all too easy to respond violently in some situation, but to continue in gentleness whatever situations face us, requires much greater strength of character.
In the next verse Paul goes on to say, ‘Fight the good fight of faith, lay hold on eternal life …’ Achieving these things requires strength and purpose; we are facing an uphill battle, because these things are foreign to the world in which we live. That is why, in another letter Paul prays that the believers ‘be strengthened with might through His Spirit in the inner man’ (Eph 3:16b). It is the strength of the new nature that God puts within us that enables us to live the same way as Jesus did.

Ihr aber seid ... ein Volk des Eigentums ... die ihr einst nicht ein Volk wart, jetzt aber Gottes Volk seid … (1 Pet.2:9-10)

Es gibt so viele Bilder in der Bibel über unsere Beziehung zu Gott. Wir sind herausgerufen aus der Welt um eine Versammlung zu sein, das ist die Gemeinde, wir sind der Leib Christi, seine Braut, wir sind im Reich Gottes, der Ort wo Gott regiert. Jedes Bild baut sich auf das nächste auf, damit wir verstehen lernen, welch eine tiefe Beziehung Gott mit uns haben möchte. Dies ist keine zweidimensionale Beziehung, sondern etwas Tiefes und Leidenschaftliches, voller Gefühl und basiert auf voller Hingabe. In den oben zitierten Versen sehen wir das Bild, dass wir das Volk Gottes sind, dass wir ihm gehören und dass wir die sind, die ihm hingegeben sind.
Wir sind die, auf die er sich verlassen kann, "Gottes Volk". Trifft das auf dich zu?

Bist du jemand, der ihm ganz hingegeben ist, auf den er sich immer verlassen kann? Ist Gott dein erster Gedanke wenn du morgens aufwachsts? Unterstellst du ihm jede Entscheidung und möchtest du wissen, was er für dein Leben möchte? Besprichst du alles mit ihm im Gebet? Betest du für die, die du lieb hast und um die du dich sorgst, aber auch für deine Feinde (Matt 5:44)? Verbringst du regelmäßig Zeit damit seine Liebesbriefe an dich (die Bibel) zu lesen? Gehört deine ganze Treue dem Herrn? Bedeutet er dir mehr als alles andere, weil du zu seinem Volk gehörst?

Kann er mit Zuversicht von dir sagen, dass du zu seinem Volk gehörst?

But you are … His own special people … who once were not a people but are now the people of God ... (1 Peter 2:9-10)

There are so many pictures in the bible of our relationship to God. We are ‘called out’ from the world to be an assembly, which is the church, the body of Christ, and His bride, we are in the Kingdom of God, the place where God reigns. Each picture builds on the next to give an understanding of the depth of the relationship that God wants with us; this is no two dimensional relationship, but something that is deep and passionate, full of feeling and based on total commitment. In the scripture quoted above we see the picture that we are His people; that we belong to Him and are those that are committed to Him; we are those that He can rely upon, because we are “HIS” people.

Is this true for you? Are you someone that is totally dedicated to Him and someone that He can rely on all the time? Is God your first thought when you wake up in the morning? Do you commit every decision to Him and do you seek to know what He desires throughout your life? Are you someone that prays to Him about everything:, about those that are dear to you, those that you care for, and those that are your enemies! (Matt 5:44) Are you someone that regularly spends time reading the ‘love letters’ (the bible) that He left you? Are you someone whose first allegiance is God? Does He mean more than anything else to you, because you are one of His people?

Can God say with confidence today about you that, “he/she is one of MY People?”
