For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of an archangel, and with the trumpet of God. And the dead in Christ will rise first. Then we who are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And thus we shall always be with the Lord. Therefore comfort one another with these words. (1 Thess 4:16-18)

There are many different views about how this age will finally be brought to a close by the Lord, but some things are very clear.

The first and most obvious is that there is a day when the Lord Jesus will return to this earth. When He was taken into heaven in the sight of the disciples in Acts chapter 1, the angels were certain that He would return. The second indisputable fact is that when the Lord returns, everyone will know. John writes in Revelation that every eye will behold him. We, and everyone else, will know that Jesus has returned; some with fear and dread, others with joy and delight. A third thing that cannot be argued about is that no-one exceot God the Father knows the day and the time of Jesus’ return (Matt 24:36). He may return before you have a chance to read this newsletter, He may return this year, it may be this century, this millenium or even later, but whenever it is, we know that it is certain! But these verses tell us that His returning is a comfort. We may experience difficulties, our lives may not always be easy, but whatever happens we can know that Jesus will come again and take us to be with Himself forever!

Even so come quickly Lord Jesus!
